In the 1960s, a series of evocative scenes unfurl: Men in rowboats fish and navigate stormy waters, with ropes and equipment strewn about. In a dimly lit room, the gentle sway of a kerosene lamp illuminates a young man interacting with a rope, while nearby, the severed head of a fish rests on a table. A somber Asian girl, her face streaked by a solitary tear, delicately handles chopsticks. On a village street, a man laden with a potato sack and shovel pauses outside a produce store, sampling an onion and later tying string around fruits in an orchard. A mother in a traditional kimono lovingly assists her child with a drink, and an Asian family, including the young girl, the mother with her child, and a man, share a meal. The atmosphere is pensive, with the girl expressing her emotions both through her actions with the chopsticks and her words.
