Democracy (1945)
Democracy is complex and lacks a single definition, but it fundamentally involves shared respect and shared power among community members. Shared respect means valuing each individual regardless of wealth, religion, or race, while shared power is evident when many people participate in decision-making through fair elections. Economic balance, characterized by a strong middle-income group, and Enlightenment, which emphasizes access to information and education, are essential conditions for fostering democracy. A well-functioning democracy requires ongoing efforts to maintain these conditions, as neglect can lead to its decline.
