What our town does for us (1955)
While buying a tag for his bicycle at the town hall, a young boy learns how local tax money is spent for the benefit of the town’s citizens. Describes the functions of various departments in the town government, including the departments of health, parks, and public works and buildings. Emphasizes that through tax dollars, the city government is able to pay for the salaries of people working in these departments and for their activities. Explains the responsibilities of the mayor. Shows how community governments are organized and teaches that taxes support the community government.
