Matter Into Energy (Revised, 1978)
Begins with the nuclear-powered ship {Enterprise} at sea and the remarkable circumstances of its capability to sail for five years without refueling, because the source of its power is a nuclear reactor. Animated diagrams then illustrate the structure of simple and complex atomic nuclei, while the principle of binding energy is explained. The process of fission and the process of fusion are then diagrammed and explained, and the quantitative measurements that reveal the disappearance of matter are given.
