James Monroe – The Boy, The Man, The President (1961)
The James Monroe Law Office and Museum is dedicated to the fifth president of the United States, showcasing his personal effects and historical documents. Born on April 28, 1758, Monroe grew up in Virginia, participated in the Revolutionary War, and had a significant political career. He served as a diplomat in France, negotiated the Louisiana Purchase, and was elected president in 1816. Monroe’s presidency, known as the “Era of Good Feelings,” focused on national expansion and the Monroe Doctrine, which opposed European intervention in Latin America. He retired to Virginia after his presidency and died on July 4, 1831.
