Hindu Family

This film follows the story of Ganga, a young woman who is getting married in the village of Atgum in the province of Gujarat in India. Before the wedding, Ganga’s father orders a bracelet of pearls and solid gold as a wedding present for her. This is to signify her health and wealth and to show that she is also Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Ganga is also given a sari, which is a piece of cloth or silk wrapped around the body in a special way. The film follows the preparations for the wedding, including the making of earthen pots, churning of butter, the blessing of food, the draping of the sari, and the arrival of the groom. Throughout the film, the importance of tradition and religion is highlighted. Finally, Ganga and her groom are joined in marriage and the film ends with them doing reverence to the elders of the family.
