Geography Of The Middle Atlantic States (1953)

Explores the geography of the Middle Atlantic states in the United States. The region is made up of New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and West Virginia. The cities in this region include New York, Baltimore, and Philadelphia, which are important Atlantic ports. Philadelphia is a shipping center and has many industries, and other cities near it follow a line called the fall line. Washington D.C. is the capital of the nation and not an industrial city. The area from New York to Buffalo is another group of cities, with New York being a world center of transportation and trade. Buffalo is a funnel city where products are funneled through. The newest industrial area is near Baltimore on Chesapeake Bay. Pittsburgh is the center of the mining and Steel Industries. Most of the people in these states live in big cities, suburbs, or smaller towns, with a large portion of the population being employed in various industries. Some people live on small truck farms, where they grow vegetables and fruits. The film highlights that transportation networks, industry, and dense population are key ideas to help understand the geography of the Middle Atlantic states.
