Fantastic Figures
The film is centered around the banks of the Rio Lerma, and in towns and villages near Toluca. Here, artists gather reeds from the river to be exposed to the sun and woven into figures of all shapes and sizes. The weaving of baskets, wood carving, furniture making, and pottery making are also popular industries in Mexico, as well as hand embroidery and palm tree root carving. The artisans of these industries have passed down their skill sets from generation to generation, resulting in unique and beautiful creations.
