Show ‘Em the Road (1954)

This film follows a town’s juvenile officer explaining a safety and economy competition to the local police department. The competition involves a two-day, 663-mile route starting in Lynwood, California, moving east to San Bernardino, through the Cajon Pass, and refueling in Barstow along US 91. The route continues across the Joshua Tree desert to Las Vegas, Nevada, then up to Hoover Dam before returning home. To ensure fairness, the competition uses a ton mileage formula, which includes weighing the vehicles and pushing the cars into gas stations.

The film features notable appearances by race car driver Ralph DePalma and includes excellent shots of Las Vegas, showcasing the Sands Hotel and vibrant nighttime neon signs.
