The Battle

D.W. Griffith. This film follows a group of Union soldiers as they march, battle, and celebrate during the Civil War. Women in dresses, men in Union soldier uniforms, and a cheering crowd wave flags as the Northern soldiers pass by. The troops line up behind stone walls, fire rifles, and wave the USA flag. Women and men hug and kiss in the living room and a man in uniform falls near a bush. A wounded general is carried into the living room, and a man with a revolver crouches near a bush. A Confederate soldier chases and shoots a Union soldier, cannons fire, and powder wagons explode. The Union troops jump the wall, draw their swords and rifles, and eventually win the battle. The soldiers, officers, and generals rejoice in the living room as the woman and man in uniform embrace.
