The Ranger 8 spacecraft was launched on February 17, 1965, and impacted the Moon on February 20, specifically in the Sea of Tranquility. It captured a total of 7,137 pictures using six television cameras, transmitting images over two channels. The cameras provided wide coverage of the lunar surface, with the final images taken just seconds before impact. Ranger 8 traveled approximately 248,000 miles from Cape Kennedy and impacted only 16 miles from its original target.
