In the 1960s, a series of scenes unfolds starting with a helicopter flying over suburban homes and then landing in a lake. The ambiance is largely set by various natural vistas – fields stretching to forests under the sun, and an expansive sky ranging from partially cloudy to filled with dark and fluffy clouds, through which the bright sun occasionally pierces. Inside, a boy and his father bond over the sight of rain pouring down their living room window. In contrast, the world of technology is also present, with technicians using tools like circular slide rules for calculations, and there are scenes highlighting weather-monitoring equipment atop a building, including a radar tower and devices bearing the U.S. Department of Commerce Weather Bureau sign. The views again shift, this time from an airplane’s perspective, offering breathtaking sights of clouds both above and below, capturing the essence of flight in that era.
