Long Journey West 1820 (1960)
In May 1820, a family from Sturbridge, Massachusetts, embarks on a journey to New Bolton, Illinois, after receiving a letter from Uncle George offering them land and a mill. The family prepares for their long trip, packing essentials and deciding on their route westward. They face numerous challenges, including poor roads, bad weather, and the difficulty of traveling with oxen and a cart. After spending weeks traveling and selling their oxen in Pittsburgh, they take a flatboat down the Ohio River. Finally, after 78 days, they arrive in New Bolton, where they are welcomed by new neighbors and begin to settle into their new life.
