First Foods (1978)
The first year of a baby’s life is a crucial period of growth and development, where they transition from helpless infants to active little individuals. During this time, babies typically triple their weight and grow significantly in height. Proper nutrition is essential, and for the first few months, babies should only consume breast milk or formula, as solid foods can lead to allergies and obesity if introduced too early. Parents are encouraged to wait until their baby is ready, usually around three months, to introduce simple solid foods. Homemade baby food can be nutritious and safe if prepared correctly, while commercial baby foods should be chosen carefully, avoiding unnecessary additives. As babies grow, they can gradually transition to more varied textures and types of food, learning to feed themselves and developing their own preferences.
