Desert Trek (1976)

This film follows a group of children led by an adult named Mr. Oke (William Christopher from M.A.S.H.) on a desert field trip meant to be an educational science project. The excursion takes a harrowing turn when Mr. Oke becomes incapacitated, potentially due to a medical emergency, leaving the children lost and disoriented in the harsh desert heat. As tensions rise and resources—specifically candy bars needed for a diabetic member of the group—disappear, the children struggle with panic, blame, and the burden of leadership. The narrative captures their chaotic attempt to navigate the dunes using an unreliable compass while grappling with the realization that they must act quickly to save their mentor and themselves before the extreme environment becomes fatal.
