Death, Drugs And Walter (1975)

The film “Death, Drugs And Walter” tells the tragic story of a 12-year-old boy named Walter who grew up in Harlem and ultimately died from a heroin overdose. Despite appearing healthy and happy in a school photo, Walter struggled with drug addiction from a young age, influenced by his environment and lack of parental support after his father was deported. His mother, overwhelmed with nine other children and unaware of Walter’s drug use, sought help through the court system, but Walter’s time in various shelters and schools did not provide the stability he needed. Ultimately, after multiple attempts to escape from treatment facilities and a return to the streets, Walter succumbed to addiction, highlighting the dire circumstances faced by children in impoverished neighborhoods.
