Canada (1944)
Canada, located 2,000 miles west of Great Britain, is the largest nation in the Western Hemisphere, covering over 3.2 million square miles. It shares many cultural and economic similarities with the United States, yet many Americans know little about its 11-12 million inhabitants. Canada is a sovereign nation with nine provinces, each having distinct needs and interests. The country is divided into four main regions: Western Canada, which is rich in resources and agriculture; Industrial Canada, centered in the St. Lawrence Valley; Maritime Canada, which faces economic challenges; and French Canada, primarily in Quebec, known for its unique culture and strong ties to the Catholic Church. The Second World War significantly transformed Canada from an agricultural economy to an industrial powerhouse, leading to increased cooperation with the United States, including military partnerships and trade agreements.
