A Gift From Dirk (1950)

In Amsterdam, a boy named Durk lives on a canal boat and learns about beauty from his father. They discuss the value of beautiful things, exemplified by a story about a nobleman who traded valuable possessions for a single tulip bulb, the Firebird tulip. Durk dreams of seeing this tulip and, during a visit to the Keukenhof Gardens, searches for it among many other flowers. Despite not finding the Firebird tulip, he learns that beauty is subjective and can be found in many forms. Ultimately, he nurtures a tulip he believes is special, reflecting his journey of understanding beauty.
