This film tells the story of Levi, a struggling father and basket weaver who is deeply in debt to a merchant named Ahaz. Facing an impossible deadline to repay his loan, Levi and his daughter resort to a desperate plan: they pretend to be destitute and plead for mercy from Ahaz. Ahaz, moved by their apparent poverty, not only forgives the debt but also gives them a substantial sum. However, the daughter, eager for personal gain, reveals their deception to her mother, highlighting the corrupting influence of greed. When Levi’s original creditor arrives, unaware of Ahaz’s generosity, he confronts Levi, leading to a dramatic encounter where Ahaz intervenes, exposing Levi’s deceit and ultimately ensuring justice is served by imprisoning Levi for his dishonesty. The film concludes with a moral lesson about forgiveness and the consequences of greed.
