The Inheritance (1965)
“The Inheritance,” authored by Harold Mayer and produced by the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, offers a perspective on American life through the experiences of its working-class citizens. The film utilizes a combination of still photographs, silent film, and newsreel footage, paired with folk songs and popular music, to depict labor conditions from 1900 onwards. It highlights the harsh realities faced in sweatshops, coal mines, and weaving mills, while also reflecting on the labor struggles of the 1930s and the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
