The Guilt of Clare Mattson (1956)

A desperate mother, who gave up her child years ago, hires a private investigator to find her daughter. Her husband is initially unaware of her search but later confronts the investigator, warning him to drop the case. The investigator finds the child, now adopted and happy, but the mother’s reunion with her daughter is fraught with the adoptive parents’ fear of complication. Ultimately, the mother finds solace and a path to reconciliation through religious faith, realizing that her daughter is better off, and accepting her past mistakes.
