Seventh Street Entrance (1935)
“Seventh Street Entrance” (1935) is a silent promotional film set in the Stix, Baer, and Fuller department store in St. Louis, Missouri. It tells the story of a female sales associate who learns the importance of quality in fashion and retail. Initially skeptical of the store’s slogan, “Quality Tells – Quality Sells,” her inability to dress well for a surprise visit from her boyfriend prompts a shift in her perspective. After embracing the store’s values, she excels at her job, wins a trip to New York City, and seeks to rekindle her relationship with her boyfriend. The film cleverly intertwines themes of professionalism, personal growth, and consumer education, using 1930s fashion and salesmanship as a backdrop.
