Black Communications Project (1967)
The Black Communications Project, initiated by the Black Students Union at San Francisco State College in 1967, aimed to empower and educate Black individuals through art and communication. Leaders like Jimmy Garrett and Leroy Jones emphasized the importance of reclaiming Black identity and culture, advocating for a collective understanding of Blackness. The project sought to counteract the negative portrayals of Black people in America and promote a sense of pride, creativity, and community among Black individuals.
